Linhai is an ancient city with a river on its west and south and mountains on the north.
Some maps can give an overview of the ancient part of the city and its wall: |
Linhai city is surrounded by an ancient wall
sometimes called the "Southern Great Wall of China"
Today the wall is preserved and still surrounds three-quarters of the city. |
Taizhou University campus is relatively new, situated just West of the city center.
|
Many of the ancient streets of Linhai are preserved,
still homes for many people as well as their workplaces and a variety of shops and resturants.
|
The ancient city of Linhai was positioned in its location largly because of the natural defenses
of the Lingiiang river (forming the western and southern edges of the city).
|
Linhai is famous for its oranges, normally seedless, in USA these would probably be called nectarines.
